Winter is the best time to burn safely, but before you do, get your Fire Permit from the MD of Peace office. If you are burning 800 meters from a roadway, signage is required and can be obtained from Laprairie Group.
Our local Fire Chief, Lawrence Arnold, is always happy to help landowners and residents. He can be reached at the MD office.

ยท Have someone monitoring the burn the entire time โ€“ if it escapes, immediately call 911.
ยท Only burn what you can control with the equipment and people you have available, and adjust your burning according to weather conditions.
ยท Build it right. Brush piles or debris windrows should be free of soil, built to a maximum height of 3 metres, and with a fireguard or cleared land around it to stop the spread of fire.

ยท Spread the remaining material within the pile and soak with water as required.
ยท Check the area and ensure both heat and smoke are no longer being produced by the pile โ€“ it should be cool to the touch.
ยท Check your burn site multiple times in the following weeks to ensure it has not reignited.

Thank you in advance for being FireSmart and ensuring the safety of our community.
