Alberta Pond Hockey Gala Support
Council reaffirmed its previously approved donation of $5000 for the 2024 Alberta Pond Hockey Championships. Although the ice events are cancelled, the funds will be directed to support the Gala and Silent Auction Event on March 9, 2024, at the Mile Zero Regional Multiplex.
Meeting with the Village of Berwyn
Council authorized Reeve Robert Willing, Deputy Reeve Sandra Eastman and CAO Margaret McClarty to attend a meeting with the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and CAO regarding the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework agreement and Fire Services.
Brownvale Water Valves
Darrell Johnson, MD of Peace Water Operator, provided council with information regarding priority water-related upgrades required and a recommended process to evaluate and replace water valves in Brownvale. Council approved that the evaluation of existing valves begin in April.
Meeting with Duncan’s First Nation
Council authorized Reeve Bob Willing, Councillor Lori Kinnee, CAO Margaret McClarty and the Assistant CAO, Lelia Summer to attend a meeting with Duncan’s First Nation on March 6, 2024.
Support for Elk Island Park Projects
Council approved, in principle, a number of long-term projects that the Elk Island Park Recreation group have planned. Council further directed administration to draft a letter to Jeff Peokens at Alberta Forestry and Parks, advising him that Council approves these projects in principle. Projects include clearing trees to expand the campground and campsites, the development of a walking trail, the construction of a clubhouse, cookhouse, and miniature pioneer cabin, drilling a water well, and the installation of a new wooden bench and playground equipment.
Snowplowing for Seniors
Council directed administration to revert to the previous process for Seniors’ snowplowing services, wherein any seniors that receive the Alberta Seniors Benefit are eligible for free snow plowing from the MD. Interested seniors should call the MD’s office for further information.
Municipal Leaders Caucus Attendance
Council authorized Deputy Reeve Sandra Eastman to attend the Municipal Leaders Caucus in Edmonton on March 14 & 15, 2024 hosted by the Alberta Municipalities Association.
